Recidivism at the Globe and Mail

Question: When is a correction not a correction?

Answer: Evidently when it is printed in the Globe and Mail, otherwise known as Jim Flaherty’s propaganda rag. A propaganda rag that is intent on portraying Jim Flaherty’s betrayal and cowardice on the income trust fraud as “courageous”. So intent that the Globe printed the following false statement in an article dated October 6, 2009:

“In an article on Mr. Flaherty, Euromoney characterized his income trust decision as courageous”

Nothing of the sort appeared in Euromoney, and when this was brought to the Globe’s attention by myself and other dismayed readers the Globe reluctantly printed the following:

“Correction: Euromoney magazine did not describe the income trust decision by Finance Minister Jim Flaherty as courageous. Incorrect information was published Wednesday.”

Here is where recidivism at the Globe comes in. Could someone perhaps explain to me why this story in the Globe that misquotes Euromoney and embellishes on Euromoney’s reasons for giving this dubious award continues to read in the on line version as:

“In an article on Mr. Flarhety, Euromoney characterized his income trust decision as courageous”

It’s like the Globe admission of error is just an empty falsehood, like the story itself.

Recidivism: is the act of a person repeating an undesirable behavior after they have either experienced negative consequences of that behavior, or have been treated or trained to extinguish that behavior. It is also known as the percentage of former prisoners who are rearrested.

The Globe does not care one iota.

They made their point in the original piece--we love Jim & his gov`t--we hate income trust investors & their ilk.

Of those who saw the original article , only a very few would see the correction.

For the Globe , it`s mission accomplished.

All they have to do is put on some Chapstick & get ready for next time.
