Obama: 'Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency'

US President Barack Obama has issued executive orders on government ethics and transparency as part of a packed first full day in office.

The measures include curbs on lobbying and a pay freeze for senior White House staff. Federal employees will have to sign up to new ethics procedures.

The new president said he was beginning "a new era of openness" in government.

I thought that was what Harper promised us in 2006.

Hopefully Obama`s openness is different from the censuring one-man show we have here where the PM`s claim to fame is 18 blacked-out pages & the firing of anyone who gets in his way.

Blacked out regime? How so? Canada is still a democracy and media outlets are reporting.

Anonymous: That's a pretty low threshold that you employ to describe acceptable transparency....Canada's still a democracy and the media outlets are still reporting?

Harper's "proof" of alleged tax leakage from income trusts took the form of 18 pages of blacked out documents issued under the Access to Information Act, that were subsequently demanded to be returned.

Is that "blacked out regime" enough for you?
